Wind Ensemble [More Details...coming soon]
The Wind Ensemble is the highest concert performance band at Ocean Lakes.
The membership of the Wind Ensemble is comprised of the most advanced performers
in the program. The director of bands selects members on the basis of auditions in
the spring of the preceding year. The repertoire and performance level of this
organization will be measured against the highest criteria for high school performing
organizations throughout the nation. The Wind Ensemble represents the school and band
program at selected performances, including the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s
Association (VBODA) band festival. After school performances and rehearsals are required
for Wind Ensemble. All members of this band are required to participate in District band
auditions, and Solo and Ensemble festival. Private lessons are strongly recommended for
all students in this group.

Concert Band [More Details...coming soon]
The Concert Band is open to all students of Ocean Lakes High School through auditions
held by the director of bands. Members in Concert Band work toward improving their basic
skills of playing through concentrated daily study of rhythmic exercises, tone studies,
proper posture, basic fundamentals, and scale study in addition to performance of appropriate
musical repertoire. After school performances and rehearsals are required for Concert Band
and will be held two to three weeks before a scheduled concert.

Jazz Ensemble [More Details...coming soon]
The membership of the Jazz Ensemble is selected through auditions in the late fall.
This group meets exclusively after school and participation in all rehearsals is required.
Wind players must be enrolled in a band class in order to be considered for this group.
The jazz ensemble studies and performs music in various jazz styles including but not
exclusive to Swing, Be-Bop, Cool Jazz, Hard Bop, avant-garde, Free Jazz, and Jazz-Rock
Fusion.

Percussion Ensemble [More Details...coming soon]
Percussion Ensemble is a class designed to continue the study of mallet, snare and
multiple percussion technique. Students will work on percussion ensemble music as well as
concert band music for the ensemble that they are assigned through audition.

Marching Band [More Details...coming soon]
The Ocean Lakes High School Marching Band is open to any person, grades 9-12, who has
successfully passed the tryouts held in the spring of each year. The marching band compliments
the pageantry of the football season in addition to performing at marching band competitions,
parades, and selected community activities. The marching band is an excellent way for members
to show their school spirit and support for their football team while participating in a
dynamic and competitive musical program. All students involved in marching band must be
enrolled in a band class. Rehearsals are held during summer marching band camp and after
school during the fall.

Color Guard [More Details...coming soon]
The color guard of the marching band is open to any person, grades 9-12, who has successfully
passed the tryouts held in the spring of each year. The color guard is an integral part of the
marching band and performs at parades, football games, and marching band competitions. They are
a valuable part of the marching band and are expected to exhibit all those qualities demonstrated
by the rest of the band. After school performances and rehearsals are required of all members of
the color guard.
Indoor Guard may exist if instructors and funds are available. The membership of the Indoor
Guard is drawn from those students selected through the auditions held at the conclusion of marching
band season. The Indoor Guard participates in separate performances in the late winter and spring
months. After school performances and rehearsals are required of all members of the Indoor Guard.

Pep Band [More Details...coming soon]
Although the Pep Band does not exist for this year's school season, it existed in the past. The Pep
Band was very popular. The group consisted of members from the other band ensembles (e.g. marching band,
concert band, etc.). Usually, the Pep band only had one or two performances during the winter assembly.
During recent years, the Pep Band has been run entirely by students. All the musical arrangements and dance
choreography were done by the students.

Orchestra [More Details...coming soon]
The orchestra allows musicians who play stringed instruments an oppurtunity to perform along with some wind
instruments. The orchestra usually focuses on classical music.
